Circuit of the Americas Reveals Layout for NASCAR Races
All three major national series to race around a 3.41-mile track in Austin
One of the most anticipated weekends in the 2021 NASCAR schedule is definitely the one at Circuit of the Americas. The long wait is going to be over next year as Cup Series, Xfinity Series, and Truck Series will all hit the track in Austin in late May. There have been no announcements about the mileage and the layout of the track until today. Earlier on Friday, the COTA officials have shown the layout, which will be used in NASCAR races.
NASCAR races will be held on a regular 3.41-mile layout, which is also used in Formula 1 races. “We took a hard look at both the 3.41-mile-long course and the newly reconfigured 2.2-mile short course. There is no doubt the long course will be the most entertaining for the fans. There are more sightlines and opportunities for hillside viewing, plus we’ll have additional options for trackside camping”, says Marcus Smith, Speedway Motorsports President and CEO Marcus Smith.
Some more details about the track surroundings have also been revealed. Rumble strips from Charlotte Roval will be added as well as the “turtle” kerbs. More than that, the pit road will be extended and additional tyre-packs will be installed at the track. Last, but not least, there will be more caution lights and timing loops.
Though the mileage and the number of race laps are still to be announced, news about NASCAR racing at COTA’s full layout is definitely great and it makes the race weekend even more exciting.
